“We were forged in blood and shadow, but we stand with life and Light.”
— First Hunter Kallen Vire
The Old Hunters are an ancient order of monster slayers founded in Old Arathor, once composed only of humans but now open to any who would stand against darkness. Bound by a creed to protect life at any cost, they battle threats ranging from demons and undead, to void-creatures and rogue dark magic users. Unyielding and enigmatic, the Hunters operate in the shadows. They seek no glory, only to defeat that which would threaten the common folk.
The Old Hunters began as a mortal answer to immortal threats.
Founded in the waning years of the ancient human empire of Arathor, the order was born from necessity. In the shadow of the Troll Wars and amid whispers of dark magic reawakening in the land, a small cadre of warriors, rangers, and mystics bound themselves to an oath: to hunt down that which preyed upon the innocent—beasts of unusual size, warlocks who practiced in dark arts, and troll remnants that stalked the night.
Originally known as Order of the Eventide, these hunters operated under the direct patronage of early Arathi kings. While other forces defended borders and waged war, the Hunters delved into the darker places of the humans’ world; ancient troll ruins, cursed forests, and subterranean tombs; to root out evil before it could fester. They fought not for glory, but because it was all they knew, and what they did best.
When the empire of Arathor splintered, so too did the Hunters…but they endured. Some say it was during the rise of Stormwind, others say during the Second War, that the order reformed under its modern name: The Old Hunters, in recognition of their ancient legacy and ceaseless vigil.
No longer bound by race, kingdom, or creed, the Old Hunters began recruiting beyond human lands. All with a will to fight true darkness—any who would place the protection of life above all else were welcomed into the fold.
Today, the order is a loose but deeply committed network of monster hunters, spiritual guardians, and shadow-stalkers who fight evil where the rest of the world forgets to look.
The Old Hunters are not soldiers, and not knights. They are roving pragmatists, guided by a core belief:
"All life is worth protecting, and all who threaten it must be hunted, no matter what shape that threat takes."
This includes:
•Aberrant creatures spawned by arcane experiments gone wrong•Demonic incursions and fel corruption•Voidtouched cults and eldritch horrors•Undead abominations and necromantic blights•Forgotten horrors of the old world, sealed-away things better left undisturbedThey believe in neutrality, working quietly and independently of any formal government or faction. They are allies of necessity to groups like the Argent Crusade, Cenarion Circle, and Earthen Ring, but serve none. Their work and methods often take routes that may tarnish others' good names. To that end, a hunter will operate from the shadows, often disappearing from where a mission has taken place before locals can even give thanks, nor ask a name.
Their reasons for working like this are their own—for coin, for vengeance, for a roof over their heads... or perhaps even out of misplaced kindness.
Nestled in the Gilnean bogs 'neath the cliffs below the Greymanes' holdings, and above the Blackwald, sits a smaller and lesser-known County: Eldhart. The gloomy lands held for generations by the House of Severn were reclaimed along with the rest of the blighted Kingdom. Count Nelvos had been known as a cruel and dire man, though his daughter, now in charge, seems far more personable. Rumor has it she even offers housing to all willing to work to help the former residents of the County resettle their homes and land...for those willing to work.
Simple enough, though with a caveat: the very land seems to be haunted.
We operate with the knowledge that the world of Azeroth is much, much larger than what is presented to us in-game. Locations tend to be proxied, and travel times will often take days in-character.
Currently, The Old Hunters has closed-network recruitment. Friends and RP partners of current members are free to whisper an officer to inquire. Some exceptions can be made.Keep an eye out for more open recruitment in the future.
